Newsbrief: Nintendo president and CEO Tatsumi Kimishima says he expects the company's upcoming Switch console-handheld hybrid to ship 2 million units by the end of March, 2017 -- its launch month, and the end of Nintendo's fiscal year.

Kimishima laid out those sales expectations during today's quarterly earnings briefing, which was relayed through Twitter by the Wall Street Journal's Takashi Mochizuki.

The CEO reportedly also suggested consumers will be able to get their hands on the console before launch, and that, despite its portable nature, the Switch won't supplant the 3DS. He also revealed the Switch won't be sold at a loss.

Even if the Switch does manage to hit that 2 million target by the end of March, it's unlikely to have a huge bearing on Nintendo's financial performance for the year.
