Nintendo Japan has confirmed that Wii U production will soon be halted.
An update to Nintendo's official Japanese site, translated by Kotaku, explains that production of the 32GB console -- the only one currently being made in the region -- is "scheduled to end soon."
With the launch of the company's next system, the Switch, months away, it's hardly a shocking move.
The decision does, however, contradict Nintendo's recent assertions that there would be "no change to our continuing [Wii U] production."
Since being launched in 2012, just over 13 million Wii U systems have been sold, which is a far cry from the 101 million sales Nintendo managed with its predecessor, the Wii.
The Nintendo Switch, the company's long-rumored console-handheld hybrid, will hit shelves in March 2017.
