Although much of today's Nintendo Direct broadcast was dedicated to Wii U and 3DS titles that we've seen before, there were a few notable surprises which Nintendo will be hoping to boost Wii U sales with. Hyrule Warriors was the big one -- a collaboration between Tecmo Koei and Nintendo that will see the former inject The Legend of Zelda into its popular Dynasty Warriors franchise. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata was keen to stress that this "is not the next installment in The Legend of Zelda series." It's due for release on Wii U in 2014. Meanwhile, NES Remix for the Nintendo 3DS will take 16 classic NES games, and put spins on the original gameplay. Excitebike, for example, will see players driving in the dark, with only a flashlight to guide them along the difficult tracks. And the other new addition to the Nintendo catalog was Dr. Luigi, a new take on the original Dr. Mario match-three puzzler. That's due for release on Wii U at the end of December.
