Gamasutra has received word this week that Norman Ovando, a game developer who left the industry in 2010 to become a missionary, passed away on Monday in Utah.
Ovando holds credits on a number of Treyarch projects, including Spider-Man 3 and many Call of Duty games.
A former colleague tells Gamasutra that he worked with Ovando when Ovando was serving as a production coordinator for Treyarch's tools team, and that he was "a wonderful man and teammate, and an asset to our industry."
He went on to state that Ovando began attending Brigham Young University in 2010, and he later traveled to Mexico and South America to serve as a missionary for the Mormon Church.
In the wake of his sudden passing, Ovando's family has established a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of laying him to rest.
