Obituary: Unity senior program manager Andy Brammall has passed away
Andy Brammall, Unity's regional sales director and senior program manager for over 11 years, has passed away.

The Brammall family shared the news that Andy passed away suddenly on June 6 via his LinkedIn page. They remarked on the importance of his 40-year-plus career to him, and how it was a strong part of his identity.

"Andy’s 40+ year career was extremely important to him and a strong part of his identity," the family wrote. "He very much appreciated all of the many, and often close, friendships and professional relationships he was able to make over these years. He really loved and valued his work and community, whether in the biomechanics or games industries."

The announcement post has seen an outpouring of messages from colleagues and professional people that Brammall met over the years.

"Andy was a wonderful human who made such a difference to the Industry," Ukie board member and Games Leadership director Melissa Phillips wrote. "He was a fierce supporter of BAFTA Young Game Designers competition and gave up his time to help with a number of workshops, juries and events. Sending my condolences to the family."

According to his LinkedIn profile, Brammall joined Unity in April of 2010 as regional sales director, where he was responsible for direct sales of Unity to game devs in EMEA until June 2017. He then returned to the company in February 2021 as senior program manager of the games division, providing consulting and contract development services to game studios using Unity until January 2024.

After a restructuring program in Unity that resulted in widespread layoffs, Brammall was moved into a senior client partner role in the specialist sales team, where he worked with SpeedTree, SyncSketch, and Unity Cloud products. As he said in the description of his 11 months on the role, despite "significant growth in sales," the funding for the team was withdrawn in November 2024, and the team was made redundant.

Four months ago, Brammall wrote a lengthy post about this experience, saying that it was "quite timely," matching a three-week holiday to Japan, his first visit to the country, where he was able to visit his daughter who was working there at the moment. Shortly after returning to the UK, Brammall became a grandfather.

"I was not prepared for how captivating and beautiful a country it is and so rich in history," he wrote at the time. "The opportunity to relive many scenes from Zelda was a great joy and it is an experience that will live with me forever.

"I think that if I had still been actively working I would not have been able to react in such a strong way to these experiences and so leaving Unity gave me the time, space and money to do so."

In the games industry, Brammall was also the director of Enterprise Games Consulting for over three years, senior manager of developer relations in EMEA at Magic Leap for four months, European sales manager at Havok, and more.

"Andy's friendly and personable demeanor makes him a standout colleague," said Franco Spina, senior manager in game design and revenue consultancy at Unity, in a LinkedIn recommendation. "His approachability and genuine warmth not only make working together enjoyable but also foster an environment of open communication and collaboration. It's rare to find someone who combines such a pleasant personality with high professional standards, and Andy does this effortlessly."
