In 2018, game development company Square Enix launched the game Octopath Traveler in the Nintendo Switch. Upon its release, the turn-based strategy game was a major hit for the company and the console. For a little over a year, there had been confirmation of a smartphone prequel in development, but there had been some delays.
Now, it looks like the game will finally see the light of day thanks to an updated release date that confirms the title's October release. Octopath Traveler: Ruler of the Continent will be set in the same continent as the original game but has been confirmed to be years before the main story.
The game will feature the same things that made the original title so engaging, such as pixelated sprites and 3D environments mixed in with a party play aspect. A new trailer for the game was also released, which can be seen below!
There is no confirmation on if or when the game will release in the west, but if the title does well in Japan, it's possible the game could release overseas. Make sure to check out the new trailer, and don't forget to share your thoughts in the comments!
The game is set on the same Orsterra continent as the original game, but is set a few years before the start of the story.
Octopath Traveler: Ruler of the Continent will release on iOS and Android in Japan on October 28th!
