You know what? I don’t get it. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has been in development hell for a long time. It was so bad at one point that Paradox Interactive had to replace the studio working on it. So, you’d assume the publisher will opt for a consumer-friendly approach. But nope. Instead, Paradox Interactive is doing everything it can so that it can kill the momentum and hype for it.
Yesterday, Paradox Interactive announced that Bloodlines 2 will come out on October 21st. We also got an extended gameplay video for it. And yes, this might not be up to the ludicrous standards you may have set for Bloodlines 2. But hey, at least the game is now going to come out.
In a truly bizarre marketing move, Paradox Interactive has already announced a day-1 paid DLC. This DLC will unlock two distinct and powerful vampire clans, each with unique abilities and playstyles, as well as a total of eight new outfits. So, yes. Paradox has locked two vampire clans behind a paid DLC. This is hilarious.
I’ve said numerous times that DLCs are the cancer of gaming. I’ve been saying this for A LONG TIME, and I’ve never purchased a DLC for any game. And I sure as hell do not recommend pre-ordering games that have paid DLCs at launch. Especially those that lock gameplay content behind it. Because it would have been a bit OK if this was only a cosmetics DLC. But nope. Paradox went full greedy on this one.
In Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, you get to explore the World of Darkness and climb the ranks in the vampire world. The game takes place in Seattle, a city full of fascinating and sometimes dangerous people and groups. This sequel to the beloved classic lets you make choices that can shake up the balance of power.
In this game, players can use supernatural powers or clever words to trick normal people into following them into dark alleys, where they can feed and satisfy their Hunger. But you have to be careful. If humans discover what you really are, you’ll break the Masquerade, the secret rule that keeps your kind hidden from the world.
According to early previews, Bloodlines 2 is not as a heavy RPG game as a lot of fans would have hoped. The game seems to be more linear than what you’d expect from a sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. In a lot of ways, this feels more like a action stealth game with some RPG elements than a proper RPG game. So, if you are expecting an RPG similar to the first Bloodlines, you will be hugely disappointed.
Let’s hope that after this backlash, Paradox will make this DLC available to everyone who gets the game!
