Phantasy Star Online 2 is free-to-play, coming to smartphones

Newsbrief: Sega's Phantasy Star Online 2, due for release on both Windows PC and PlayStation Vita, will be free-to-play and is also coming to iOS and Android devices, the company has revealed. Sony already noted earlier this month that the online RPG will offer cross-platform play across the PC and Vita versions. In a media briefing today, and as reported by Andriasang, Sega said that the game will be free-to-play, with micro-transactions for special in-game items. The newly announced smartphone versions will be able to share data with the PC and Vita versions, but will not offer cross-platform play. They will also be simpler than the full versions, offering a more "personal and simple" experience, said Sega. The PC version of the game is due to be released later this year, while the smartphone versions will launch this Christmas. The Vita version will then come next year.
