PLAYSTATION 5: Sony Reveals That The New Console Will Be Backwards Compatible With The PlayStation 4

Sony has recently revealed some of the technical specs of the long-awaited PlayStation 5, giving players some thorough information about the highly anticipated console.

In a recent entry on the official PlayStation Blog website, Sony has also revealed that the PlayStation 5 will be backwards compatible, but don't get excited just yet.

According to Sony, the PlayStation 5 will be backwards compatible with "the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles," stating that these titles are expected to "run at a boosted frequency on PS5." This will allegedly provide more stable frame rates and higher resolutions, as revealed by the developer.

The developer also reveals that backwards compatibility has already been tested with hundreds of PlayStation 4 games, and that they expect to test thounsand more in the coming months leading to the PlayStation 5's highly anticipated launch.

What's defiitely disappointing, however, is the fact that only PlayStation 4 titles have been revealed to be compatible with the new console — and also that Sony has, once again, decided to neglect backwards compatibility with their previous consoles.

Fans will remember that early models of the PlayStation 3 were able to run PlayStation and PlayStation 2 discs, and that this feature — at least in regards to PlayStation 2 titles — was later removed.

Hopefully Sony will announce that games from their previous consoles will be compatible with the PlayStation 5; until then, Xbox Series X has the high ground.
