PS3 Black Friday sales up, but still lagging behind competitors

Although Sony's PlayStation 3 saw a nice spike in U.S. sales over the course of the Black Friday week, it wasn't able to muster up as many sales as rivals Microsoft and Nintendo. Sony sold over 525,000 PS3 consoles in the U.S. between Sunday, November 18 and "Black" Friday, November 23, according to internal Sony data, up 9 percent compared to the same period last year. Bundle sales for the console, in particular, were up 15 percent year-over-year. In comparison, Microsoft's Xbox 360 sold 750,000 units during the same period, while Nintendo's Wii and Wii U consoles sold 700,000 together. As for the PS Vita, Sony says that it sold more than 160,000 units during the handheld's first Black Friday week. Sony also noted that sales of PlayStation Plus subscribers jumped by 259 percent year-over-year.
