Raptr Data Shows Heavy Use For Zynga Titles

Users of game-tracking app Raptr have logged more hours playing Zynga’s Ville games than Assassin’s Creed, Gears of War, Mass Effect, and the Grand Theft Auto franchises combined since 2008, according to a new report. Raptr's newly released Zynga Report [PDF] shows that its players average nearly eight sessions a day with Zynga games, well above the average of less than two sessions a day for World of Warcraft and Call of Duty. Those Zynga play sessions add up to an average of just 41 minutes of play a day, though, well below the 177 average daily minutes logged in WoW and 252 minutes in CoD. A small, 2 percent minority of Zynga players average over 120 minutes on the company's games each day, however. Players of Zynga games aren't completely separated from the "hardcore" players of major console titles, either. Nearly 12 percent of Call of Duty players and 20 percent of World of WarCraft players also spend time on CityVille according to Raptr's data. In addition, a full 30 percent of Xbox 360 players also play a Zynga game, up from 20 percent in 2010. Zynga continues to dominate the social games space, representing three times as much playtime as the next nine most popular social games combined, according to Raptr's tracking. Zynga has also shown a talent for retaining players, with 80 percent of FarmVille players going on to play CityVille. This puts the series' its player retention on par with major franchises like Halo and Dragon Age. Raptr tracks usage statistics for over 10 million players, though its sample could be skewed by the fact that it only tracks players that choose to sign up for and download its free app, rather than tracking by a random sample of all players.
