Rematch attracts 1 million unique players within 24 hours of launch
Rematch, the multiplayer soccer title from Absolver and Sifu developer Sloclap, has attracted 1 million unique players in 24 hours.

The French studio shared the news on X and confirmed it's already working on number of fixes and improvements for the live-service title. It's worth noting that players doesn't necessarily equate to sales in this instance, with Rematch launching on Xbox Game Pass. It's also available for purchase on other platforms such as Steam and PlayStation.

Sloclap has been candid about the challenges of developing a multiplayer title and recently apologized for failing to deliver key features such as crossplay at launch.

In a detailed post on Steam, the studio explained it faced "unforeseen technical complexities" that prevented it from implementing crossplay but said the feature remains its "absolute highest priority."

"We already have a basic working version [of crossplay] from a technical standpoint, but we need to implement the relevant interfaces, before debugging and polishing it, and finally passing console certifications successfully—all this takes time but we are doing our best to move forward quickly," reads the post.

It pledged to continue polishing the title while improving stability and online performing after acknowledging that "server and client desync" and other issues have been impacting the quality of matches.

Additional core gameplay tweaks, competitive features, social components, and more are also in the works—although Sloclap has asked players to remain patient as it strives to expand the title.

"Please remember that we are not a huge team, and that these features take time, so don’t expect all this by the end of the year," it added. "We will communicate on a more precise roadmap for upcoming seasons as soon as we have better visibility on when we can deliver on these intentions."

Update 6/24: Today Sloclap announced that sales of Rematch are still roaring ahead, with over 1 million units sold on the game's launch weekend. In that time, 2.5 million players have taken the pitch since its June 19 launch date. Those digital footballers have scored 5.58 million goals across over 11.78 matches to date.
