A Japanese newspaper has outlined preliminary details of Sony's PSP2, claiming that the forthcoming handheld will feature 3G support to play online games and download software and movies on the move, as well as a large OLED touchscreen. Nikkei.com, the online presence of the Nikkei Sangyo Shimbun, published details of the device earlier today (translated by Andriasang. The report indicated that, in addition to wireless LAN, the device will have 3G support provided by NTT DoCoMo in Japan. Users will not, however, be able to make calls across 3G, the report adds. The paper claims that Sony has developed a new processor for the handheld, capable of handling the high resolution visuals generated on the allegedly large OLED touch screen. In December Sony gaming chief Kaz Hirai hinted at touchscreen controls for the device. The paper does not mention pricing of the device, nor whether there will be separate versions with and without 3G support. The handheld is expected to be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 27, at a press conference in Tokyo.
