Approximately forty employees have been laid off from Mafia 2 developer 2K Czech, according to online reports. British site Develop reports that "up to 40 developers" at 2K Czech's Brno studio have been made redundant, while "less than ten" are said to have been laid off from its Prague studio. Both studios combined employed nearly 200 people prior to the redundancies. According to a statement from 2K, the studio "has realigned its resources to streamline the development process, reduce costs and maximize studio performance." "While this was a difficult decision, we believe it will benefit the studio in the long-term," the statement continued. Founded in 1997, 2K Czech (then known as Vockozka Trading, and later as Illusion Softworks before its 2008 2K acquisition) is the developer behind the Mafia, Vietcong and Hidden & Dangerous franchises. Its latest title, tennis sim Top Spin 4, was released earlier this year.
