During a recent interview with Japanese website 4Gamer (translated by DualShockers), Sony's senior VP, Masayasu Ito, all but confirmed the death of first-party games on the PlayStation Vita, explaining that the company has told its studios to focus on creating games for the PlayStation 4 instead.

"Currently, first-party studios have no titles in development for PS Vita," said Ito. "Since third-parties are working very hard on PS Vita, SCE’s own strategy is to focus on PS4, which is a new platform."

"At the beginning the PS Vita did not resonate with age targets under 20, but now the situation is changing and the popularity with younger demographics is increasing. Minecraft: PS Vita Edition has provided a boost."

Although Ito stated that there are no more first-party handheld games in development, a PS Vita version of BigFest, a music festival management simulator developed by Sony, is still on the way.
