Sales and profits up at Bandai Namco as video game revenue rises

Bandai Namco has posted its financials for the nine month period ending December 31, and both sales and profits are on the up. 

Looking at the company has a whole, sales were up by 3.9 percent year-over-year, rising to 425.2 billion yen ($3.69 billion). Profits increased by 8.3 percent, hitting 34.6 billion yen ($301 million) by the end of December. 

Video game revenue also increased over the past nine months, rising to 72.9 billion yen ($634.2 million) from 53.6 billion yen ($466.3 million). 

Global video game software sales so far stand at 20.68 million units sold, with 10.52 million of those sales coming from Europe - a region where the Bandai Namco published RPG, The Witcher 3, sold over 4 million copies in its first two weeks.  

In the U.S. and Japan, sales totalled 6.45 million and 3.71 million respectively. 

Overall, Bandai Namco expects to see global video game sales hit 25.7 million by the end of this financial year. Despite the gains during the period, shares have dropped by 6.74 percent.
