Oculus has announced that starting January 1, 2016, the Oculus Store will only accept applications for Gear VR software that uses SDK. 1.0 or higher.

Oculus released version 1.0 back in November for Gear VR, pitching the updated SDK as a more mature, stable API.

"Mobile SDK 1.0 includes a critical improvement over previous versions: it separates most of the core VR functionality from the client application," read an oculus statement.

"This means we can deliver system-wide updates and features without requiring you to update your app. As a result, applications built against 1.0 are significantly more future-proof than those built against earlier versions."

Following the change Oculus are recommending that developers already shipping on the update their applications as soon as possible.

Although old SDK versions will work for the time being, if developers don’t update them in time they may break in the future, and be subsequently pulled from the store.
