Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 exceeded Microsoft’s expectations, sold more than expected

In an interview with GamesIndustry, Xbox marketing head Aaron Greenberg said that both Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 exceeded Microsoft’s expectations. In other words, these two titles were critically acclaimed for Microsoft and sold more than the company expected.

At the time of writing, Sea of Thieves has over 5 million players and State of Decay 2 has more than 3 million players.

As Greenberg told GamesIndustry.

“Sea of Thieves is a big priority for us. Both Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 were, for us, breakout hits of the spring, They exceeded what we expected them to do. Sea of Thieves has over 5 million players, State of Decay 2 has more than 3 million players. They both sold more than we expected and drove a lot of great engagement with Game Pass.”
