Sega's Yakuza Series Ships 5M Units

The Yakuza action-adventure game series has shipped 5 million units to date, publisher Sega said on Wednesday. According to Japanese gaming news site Andriasang, Sega also said that the series' latest entry, the PlayStation 3 zombie spin-off Yakuza: Of the End, has shipped 400,000 units since its launch on June 9 in Japan. The Yakuza series revolves around Japan's Yakuza organized crime syndicate. The series debuted on PlayStation 2 in 2005 in Japan, making its way to North America the following year. Andriasang said the original game, including its budget re-release, sold 1 million units. Yakuza: Of the End showed that there is still a strong appetite for the series in Japan, having sold nearly 300,000 units in its opening week at Japanese retail. Other Yakuza titles include Yakuza 2 for PS2, as well as Yakuza 3 and 4, which later released on PS3. Black Panther Yakuza New Chapter arrived on PSP last year.
