Newsbrief: Shadowrun Returns, a new PC and tablet game for the cyberpunk series from its creator Jordan Weisman, has received over $425,000 in donation pledges on its Kickstarter campaign. Weisman and developer Harebrained Schemes (Crimson: Steam Pirates) hit their $400,000 goal for the project just a day after launching it, and have 23 days left before they stop accepting donations from fans. The proposed game will be a 2D turn-based single-player experience meant to appeal to longtime fans of the series -- unlike Microsoft Game Studios' 2007 Shadowrun release -- as well as new players. Introduced in 1989 as a pen-and-paper RPG, Shadowrun has been the basis of a few video games that have enjoyed cult followings, including Data East's SNES release in 1993 and Sega's Genesis release in 1994.
