Bethesda Softworks has announced that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the latest in the RPG franchise, has shipped more than 7 million units since its launch last week. The company also revealed that more than half of the game's launch units were sold within the first 48 hours on sale, across PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. Overall, the company expects to generate more than $450 million in global retail sales from the launch units of the game alone. During the first 24 hours of its release, the PC version of Skyrim saw over 280,000 concurrent players at its peak. Robert Altman, CEO of ZeniMax Media, said, "We are grateful for the fans' response to Skyrim." "Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company's history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides." Skyrim has received critical praise from the press and gamers alike, and has earned one of the highest Metacritic ratings of the year.
