The average American household owns 2.4 smartphones -- and that's catching up to TVs, which rest at 2.8 per household. That's a massive boon for content aimed at the devices, including games.
These numbers come from new research released by the Consumer Technology Association.
The group's study reveals, however, that 74 percent of households actually own smartphones, whereas 96 percent own TVs -- so smart mobile devices aren't yet unseating the television as the electronic device of choice overall, even if they've made massive gains.
Interestingly, the "repeat purchase" percentage for smartphones is at 91 percent -- on par with televisions, the study finds, pointing toward the indispensability of the devices to their owners.
