SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 Adds THE SUICIDE SQUAD And THOR: RAGNAROK Star Idris Elba To The Cast As Knuckles

Many things are universally loved, and one of them is arguably Idris Elba. The actor has been well-known for years now for his parts in Luther and The Office, though more recently, he has played large roles in many action films and comic book properties.

After being under-utilized in the MCU despite showing up in Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Avengers: Infinity War, the actor has now gone on to lead the cast in James Gunn's recent explosive DC film The Suicide Squad.

Gaining more popularity with each new project and continuously placing himself in new fandoms, Elba has revealed that he will be in another extremely popular franchise - Sonic the Hedgehog.

Just before the weekend, Elba took to Twitter with the below photo and message, "Knock knock," confirming that he has joined the sequel's cast. Although the first movie floundered critically due to the troubled production and design changes, a sequel is on the way. Hopefully, Idris Elba will add some much-needed charisma and bravado to the series.

Knuckles, the character Elba has confirmed he will be playing, is an echidna from the video game series. The most recognizable character from the Sonic the Hedgehog IP outside of Sonic, Tails, and Dr. Robotnic; it only makes sense that he will show up in the sequel, hopefully elevating the property.

What do you guys make of this reveal? Regardless of your thoughts, be sure to share them in the comments as usual!

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will premiere in theaters on April 8th, 2022.
