Sony says it's seeing strong momentum for its PlayStation Move, and perhaps to address the impression that consumers might find its wand controls too similar to Wii's, it's claiming that 60 percent of people interested in buying Move own a Wii already. Just a few days after the launch of Microsoft's Kinect, Sony released a few stats to show how its own gesture control solution is doing -- in addition to 1 million units sold in North and Latin America in the device's first 30 days, Sony says purchase intent has "more than doubled" since May. Sony's source for the purchase intent and Wii-owning statistics is research firm Ipsos OTX's GamePlan Insights group. Ipsos recently surveyed the motion control landscape -- finding that Kinect would be the "big winner" in the device wars largely because of its uniqueness and buzz. However, major reviewer outlets and game consumer sites have given high praise to PlayStation Move for its precision and responsiveness, while they've been far more critical of Kinect on the accuracy and response front. Sony currently has 24 titles available with PlayStation Move support, and expects to release 15 more by the end of the fiscal year.
