Sony Continuing Production Of PSP Go In North America

Sony Computer Entertainment America says the company is "continuing production of PSP Go for North America." The terse statement contradicts yesterday's statement from Sony Computer Entertainment Japan that the company was halting production of the system to focus on the code-named Next Generation Portable. The company noted that production on the standard PSP-3000 would not be affected. The clashing statements follow on reports from Japanese and UK retailers that stocks of the system would not be replenished once they run out. Sony Computer Entertainment has dropped the price of the PSP Go multiple times over the last six months, with a price drop to $199 late last year, and another drop to $149.99 last month. The PSP Go has had rocky sales since its release in 2009, with Gamasutra analyst Matt Matthews estimating a "slow death at retail" for the handheld.
