Sony Debuts PlayStation-Branded 3D Display, Glasses

At its E3 media briefing in Los Angeles, Sony announced two 3D peripherals aimed at “broadening 3D to a new audience” via more affordable pricing. The first product is a PlayStation-branded 24 inch 3D display, which SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton says is “ideal for dorm rooms, family rooms, or bedrooms.” In addition to functioning like a standard 3D display, Sony says that the monitor can output two full-screen images simultaneously, so two players can play together and see full-screen images rather than a split screen. Sony’s second peripheral is a new set of 3D glasses designed with affordability in mind. The company says these glasses will work with a variety of 3D displays and will cost $69 as a standalone product. Sony also announced that the PlayStation 3D monitor will launch this fall in a bundle that comes with Insomniac’s upcoming Resistance 3, one pair of 3D glasses, and a 6-foot HDMI cable. This bundle will cost $499 in North America.
