Starbreeze, the parent company of PayDay 2 developer, Overkill Software, is teaming up with PC hardware manufacturer Acer to bring its StarVR virtual reality headset to market.
The deal will see Acer work with Starbreeze to design, manufacture, promote, market, and eventually sell the headset.
"By partnering with Acer we shift gears yet again to firmly position us as the leader in top-end VR experiences. Acer is an excellent, experienced and prominent hardware partner that will accelerate us in realizing and producing a high-definition, high-fidelity VR headset," said Starbreeze CEO, Bo Andersson Klint.
"We've been working with a clear roadmap for our VR strategy from day one, and are now about to realize one of the first major collaborations we set out to achieve."
StarVR, which is supported by Valve’s OpenVR SDK, was announced by the company in June 2015.
Starbreeze is hoping the headset's unique 210 by 130 degree field of view, coupled with its dual 5.5 inch quad HD panel screens, will make for a more immersive experience, and help the device compete with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
Earlier this year, Starbreeze also announced plans to establish a virtual reality arcade in L.A. -- dubbed "StarCade" -- to let consumers try some of the latest VR experiences before they buy.
