A rumour had been going around the internet, suggesting that character's from Resident Evil, Capcom's acclaimed survival-horror series, would be joining the roster in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; making fans excited for any future announcements that corroborated said rumour.
The rumour was somewhat right, since it turns out that Nintendo was indeed planning to incorporate the Resident Evil series into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; introducing new characters, however, wasn't what they had in mind.
Nintendo has officially revealed that a Resident Evil-themed Spirit event will begin on the 29th of November, and will be available for players for only 5 days; an event where Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Albert Wesker, and Jill Valentine will appear on the Spirit Board for players to fight against.
It is also worth mentioning that, so far, characters who have shown up as Spirits are not, and have not become, playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Ulitmate; likely shutting down any chances of these specific Resident Evil characters ever joining the game as proper fighters.
While this may be disappointing news for fans of both the Resident Evil and Super Smash Bros. series, it is at least nice to see some representation in the game; sadly, it isn't the one everyone was hoping for.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
