Obsidian Entertainment's The Outer Worlds is coming to the Nintendo Switch. In fact, the game is only a day away from finally becoming available, and giving players the chance to experience this action role-playing tile in the comfort of their homes, or on the go; we do advise that you stay at home, though.
The Outer Worlds for the Nintendo Switch is actually including gyro controls, which is not only a feature that isn't included in other versions of the game, but it is also quite the game changer, and almost a requirement for games that rely on precission to be enjoyed.
Gyro controls or not, however, it seems that players will be left disappointed with the Nintendo Switch version of Obsidian's ciritcally acclaimed title, since an in-depth analysis conducted by Eurogamer's Digital Foundry has revealed that a lot of sacrifices were made.
As per Digital Foundry's in-depth tech analysis on The Outer Worlds for the Nintendo Switch, the game's textures and overall details have been reduced significantly when compared to other versions. While this was to be expected, the drop in image quality is jarring, and often distracting.
This analysis also reveals that most of the issues don't really come from the game's resolution, but its inconsistent frame rate — which is supposed to target 30FPS, but is constantly dropping when the system is being stressed. This is already disappointing, when considering that in other platforms the game runs at 60FPS.
Overall, Digital Foundry concludes that The Outer Worlds for the Nintendo Switch is quite an ambitious project, but it ends up being disappointing in the long run. Don't take my word for it, though, and be sure to watch their in-depth analysis down below.
