The beta version of a desktop app that Twitch began testing in March is now gone. In its place stands the real deal, a downloadable app that people can use to stream Twitch, pay money into the platform, and chat with their friends.
Some game makers may appreciate the app's focus on managing communities, as it allows you to set up chat servers where participants can message and voice chat with each other at any time.
It's much akin to what competitor Discord offers, and it bears mentioning that Discord today began testing video chat and screen-sharing on a small segment of people using its desktop app.
Of course, Twitch also has a payment system in place that lets people give money to streamers in various ways, and it now sells a selection of games directly on its platform.
