After criticism from players, Ubisoft has announced it is suspending its Uplay Passport feature, which locks online features behind a single use code, from future titles. The Passport is also to be modified for the recently released Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag to allow free access to previously gated features. "The Uplay Passport program was initiated as a means of giving customers full access and support for online multiplayer and features, along with exclusive content, bonuses and rewards," Ubisoft stated in a company blog post. "However... we recognized that Passport is no longer the best approach for ensuring that all our customers have the best possible experience with all facets of our games." Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, which previously used the Uplay Passport system to determine access to the game's fleet management system, will now allow all players to download a Passport code free of charge. Ubisoft has asked players who have already paid for a Passport code to contact their support centers.
