Unity lauds AI-powered ad platform after Q2 results exceed expectations

Unity's fiscal results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2025, beat expectations thanks to the performance of its AI-powered ad platform, Unity Vector.

Consolidated Q2 revenue dropped by 2 percent year-over-year to $441 million. Breaking that number down, Create Solutions revenue increased by 2 percent to $154 million over the same period. Grow Solutions revenue, meanwhile, declined by 4 percent year-on-year to $287 million.

Yet, despite revenue remaining relatively flat, Unity CEO matt Bromberg described the second quarter as an "inflection point" in Unity's bid to expand its business after a portfolio reset that resulted in layoffs.

"We believe the second quarter of 2025 will be remembered as an inflection point in the Unity story, where our commitment to accelerating product innovation and delivering for our customers translated to markedly better performance," said Bromberg in a note to investors.

"Results once again exceeded expectations, substantially beating the high-end of our guidance for both revenue and Adjusted EBITDA. Our new AI platform, Unity Vector, is transforming our growth prospects, delivering 15 percent sequential growth in the Unity Ad Network during the second quarter."

Is Vector changing Unity's fortunes?

Unity describes Vector as an AI platform capable of leveraging data from across its ecosystem to drive game growth.

"Powered by self-learning AI models, Vector is designed to help maximize campaign performance by delivering ads to acquire high-value users, dynamically adapt to player behavior and game changes, and optimize ROAS to help achieve fast and scalable results," reads an explainer

Unity claims the platform is capable of boosting installs by roughly 15 to 20 percent, while increasing acquired players' spending on in-app purchases by the same metric.

Unity Ad Network (which houses Vector) accounted for 49 percent of total Grow Solutions revenue during Q2.

Unity is currently attempting to rightsize its business under a new leadership team helmed by Bromberg, who was named president and CEO in May 2024. Bromberg pledged to turn Unity into a "fundamentally different company" after the engine maker rolled out a controversial (now-scrapped) Runtime Fee that left game developers reeling.

The company laid off 25 percent of its workforce last year, but interim CEO Jim Whitehurst—who eventually made way for Bromberg—said those cuts would help the company regain "focus."
