The upcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system will be heavily mobile game focused, as BlackBerry looks to compete with Apple, Google and Microsoft -- and today's addition of Unity support is another step in the right direction for the platform. A deployment add-on for the Unity engine will be available for BlackBerry 10 smartphones and for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet sometime this summer, with a free beta launching to a limited number of qualified Unity developers this spring. BlackBerry is also planning to provide the Unity development communities with BlackBerry 10 smartphones, for testing purposes. Developer meet-ups will also be held at events in Europe and North America over the coming months, where interested studios can look to receive a free device for BlackBerry Unity development. BlackBerry revealed its mobile gaming focused operating system last year, with a $10,000 incentive guarantee for developers and a Game Center style social hub. However, it was later delayed into 2013, as the company looked to ensure the quality and reliability of the platform.
