Following last week's teaser, developer/publisher Digital Extremes treated fans to their first proper look at the upcoming Warframe expansion, Heart of Deimos. Concluding the first-ever all-digital TennoCon was a 30-minute gameplay demo of the open-world expansion which will launch on August 25.
Heart of Deimos will take players to the "sticky, pulsing, and terrifying hivemind landscape" of the Infested faction. On the surface, everything is said to feel "alive and connected."
Giant towering wyrms, silhouetted against the darkened red sky, battle for control over night and day, while on the ground bulbous pods burst open with Entrati NPCs consumed and transformed by the Infested hive mind or a cadre of belligerent Infested creatures, ready to attack.
With the expansion, Digital Extremes has taken a unique approach to building this unique moon. The open world surface is connected to a procedurally generated tileset underground. Players will be able to explore beneath the surface and uncover the secret origins of the Infested and the twisted Entrati experiments.
As players explore the subsurface, they'll discover giant, powerful "combat mechs" -- war machines left behind by the Entrati that players will be able to pilot and take into combat. Players will also have their K-Drives upgraded to "living hoverboards," adding devastating firepower to their mobility.
Beyond the new moon, Heart of Deimos will build upon Warframe's customization systems, allowing players to transfer Abilities between Warframes via the Helminth Chrysalis System. Other gameplay elements, such as conservation, fishing, and Archwing flying and combat are also getting revamped.
Warframe: Heart of Deimos will launch on August 25 for simultaneously all platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It's found on the second moon of Mars, early in the Star Chart progression, so new players will be able to access it very easily.
