Why SPIDER-MAN: SHATTERED DIMENSIONS And SPIDER-MAN: EDGE OF TIME Remastered Editions Were SCRAPPED

We're sure many of you will be disappointed to hear this, but we came this close to getting remastered versions of both Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man: Edge of Time a few years ago.

The former was released in 2010 and allowed players to take control of the Amazing, Noir, 2099, and Ultimate versions of Spider-Man. Edge of Time, meanwhile, featured just the Amazing wall-crawler and his 2099 counterpart, and while it didn't quite live up to its predecessor, the game proved to be a fun ride.

According to an anonymous source at Activision in a recent Reddit post, the publisher was looking to release overhauled versions of both games on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Activision also hoped to redo the first two Ultimate Alliance games, but the deal fell through when they pushed their luck and tried to use this new deal as an excuse to develop more Marvel titles.

As a result, these new versions of Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time never really got off the ground and were only ever going to feature "minor graphical enhancements/bugfixes."

The source even says these were just a "quick money-maker" intended to take advantage of the hype generated by Insomniac's Spider-Man game.

As a result, we're not too disappointed, but it's fun to think about what could have been!
