Windows Phone 7 Sees 80 Percent Increase In Developer Uptake Since September

Windows Phone 7, the latest version of Microsoft mobile operating system, has enjoyed an 80 percent increase in the number of registered developers working on the platform since September, the company claims. “We’re heading into one of the biggest shopping weeks of the year and we’re on pace to offer roughly 3,000 apps and games by the end of this week,” Microsoft's Todd Brix noted in a recent post on the Windows Phone Developer Blog. “We’ve also seen a near 80% increase in the number of registered developers since September, with more than 15,000 developers already signaling their intent to bring exciting content to Windows Phone," he continued. "Clearly we’re just getting warmed up.” However, consumer uptake has been relatively slow for the system. WP7 phones reportedly sold just 40,000 units on launch day, despite a $100 million marketing campaign. Nevertheless, Nielsen analyst Roger Etner told financial site TheStreet that low initial sales don't necessarily spell doom for Microsoft in the mobile market. "The first Android phone was not a big seller at T-Mobile," he said.
