World of Tanks Launching In North America, Europe On April 12

London-based developer and publisher Wargaming.net (Massive Assault) announced that its free-to-play, client-based action MMO game World of Tanks will launch in Europe and North America on April 12, 2011. In the 3D, team-based combat title, players pilot around 150 historically accurate WWII-era armored vehicles from America, Germany, and the Soviet Union. World of Tanks features destructible environments, upgradeable vehicles, a dynamic combat system, and squad-based gameplay. The game was developed out of Wargaming.net's studio in Belarus, and released in Russia last October. World of Tanks has spent the past nine months in closed and open beta for North America and Europe as the developer polished the game based on feedback from players. During these beta phases, World of Tanks managed to pick up more than 1 million registrations across the United States, Europe, and Russia as of January 2011. Its single Russian server hit a record 74,536 concurrent active users in the same month. "Our team has been working really hard to create a unique blend of action, strategy, simulation and RPG elements in World of Tanks, and now the moment all fans across the globe have been waiting for is right around the corner," says Wargaming.net CEO Victor Kislyi.
