The International Center for the History of Electronic Games at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York has announced the creation of a World Video Game Hall of Fame -- to showcase games that have made a lasting impression on players and the game industry.

According to the ICHEG, games that have become iconic, have achieved longevity, have influenced the "design and development" of other titles, and which have global reach are the right fit for its new exhibit, which functions similarly to The Strong's popular National Toy Hall of Fame.

Nominations for the inaugural inductees will soon be open to everyone at worldvideogamehalloffame.org (this link doesn't work yet, as of this writing) and will be accepted until March 31. The inductees will be announced in June at a museum ceremony.
