WWE 2K BATTLEGROUNDS Shows Off Over-The-Top Wrestling Action In New Trailer During Nintendo Direct Mini

A few months ago, 2K announced they would be extending the production timeline of the next WWE 2K game, resulting in the cancellation of WWE 2K21. In its place will be WWE 2K Battlegrounds, a cartoony, arcade-like wrestling game reminiscent of THQ's WWE All Stars.

A new trailer for WWE 2K Battlegrounds was shared today during the Nintendo Direct Mini, giving us an extended look at the high-flying gameplay. The trailer features a fatal four-way match with WWE Superstars Cesaro, Kofi Kingston, Big E and Asuka controlling wrestling legends Andre the Giant, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, and Jeff Hardy. Gameplay is a far cry from the mainstay WWE 2K simulation series as we see a motorcycle used as a weapon, Jeff Hardy fed to a crocodile, and other ridiculously fun and exaggerated wrestling moves.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds will feature over 70 WWE Superstars and Legends battling it out in interactive environments with devastating power-ups. The game offers online and local co-op and a variety of matches as well as online tournaments.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is developed by Saber Interactive, the studio behind NBA 2K Playgrounds. It's available for pre-order now with a release date set for September 18, 2020. It will launch on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.
