Zynga paying $228M to buy HQ building

Newsbrief: Social game developer Zynga will buy its corporate headquarters building in San Francisco for $228 million, which will house a portion of its fast-growing workforce of more than 2800 employees. In September 2010, when Zynga signed its seven-year lease agreement for the building, which previously served as the headquarters of Sega of America, the FarmVille developer had only 1,200 workers. It's since more than doubled its headcount through acquisitions and lots of new hires. Prior to this building purchase, Zynga leased 65 percent of the 670,000-square-foot building. The company has already placed $25 million into escrow to buy the building, and is expected to complete the purchase during the April-June quarter, according to a report from the San Jose Mercury News.
