JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL Tops Charts With $19.4 Million Opening Day; On Track For $50 Million Weekend
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a suprising success at the box office back in 2017 — earning almost $1 billion — and Sony Pictures are very much looking to repeat it with Jumanji: The Next Level. Despite the sequel garnering less than impressive reviews from critics Jumanji: The Next Level has had quite an substantive opening.

In theatres as of December 13th, Jumanji: The Next Level earned $19.4 million on its opening day (via Forbes). This puts the sequel on track to earn upwards of $52.4 million during the whole opening weekend. Should the film accomplish this feat, it would have earned more than Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle did during its opening weekend — that amount being $35 million.

Jumanji: The Next Level now holds the top spot on box office charts. The #1 spot was previously held by Disney's Frozen 2 animated film — which has almost earned $1 billion in and of itself. However, with Disney's Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker on the horizon, it seems that Jumanji: The Next Level won't be in the top spot for very long.

In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect. The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.

Jumanji: The Next Level is now showing in theatres!
