Newsbrief: Star Trek Online developer Cryptic Studios has revealed that one of its user databases was breached and user details accessed by an unauthorized party nearly a year and a half ago. The studio only just found evidence of the breach recently, which happened in December 2010, due to "increased security analysis." Details that were potentially accessed include user account names, handles, and encrypted passwords -- although the studio says that the intruder was "able to crack some portion of the passwords in this database." To this end, the company says it has reset passwords on all user accounts. Cryptic also admits that it is possible that the intruder was able to access additional account information, including billing addresses, and the first six digits and last four digits of credit cards registered to accounts. It stressed, however, that there is no evidence at this time that this data was in fact accessed.
