Strong Zumba Fitness sales lead to increased Majesco profits

Zumba Fitness publisher Majesco Entertainment has once again posted increased profits, this time for the second quarter of the current fiscal year, putting it down to the continued success of its fitness titles. The company noted the release of Zumba Fitness Rush in February, which it says has been received well, and was the second best-selling Kinect game during April. Zumba Fitness 2 is still also selling solidly, it said. Overall, the Zumba Fitness series has sold over 7 million units, making it the second best-selling fitness game series ever behind Wii Fit. Majesco plans to continue its Zumba success going into the next quarter, with the launch of the first downloadable content pack for the series last month. Zumba Fitness Core will also be released later this year. The company is looking outside of its Zumba franchise, with the upcoming launches of Facebook game Mini Putt Park and Kinect game NBA Baller Beats. The rest of the year will also see Double Dragon Neon from developer Wayforward, and a Hello Kitty game for Nintendo 3DS. For the quarter ended April 30, 2012, Majesco posted revenues of $30.4 million, down 5 percent compared to $32.1 million year-over-year, and profits of $2.7 million, up compared to $2.1 million year-over-year.
