Back in September of this year, Square Enix surprised fans of the Star Ocean series by revealing that the very first title in the series would be releasing for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in December, although this would not be the exact same version of the original classic.
Star Ocean First Departure R is actually an enhanced version of the original title released in 1996, which has some redesigned characters, HD graphics that make the game look a lot better than the original, both English and Japanese texts as well as new voice overs in both languages, and polished battle mechanics.
As the game becomes available today for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, Square Enix has released a brand-new trailer that gives us a good idea of what Star Ocean First Departure R looks like, shows off some classic turn-based combat, and flaunts those beautiful new graphics.
