There was a lot of hoopla surrounding Valve's Steam Controller following its introduction back in 2013, but after a less than tepid response to the product, which included some criticism over the fact that it wasn’t designed well for games intended for dual analog sticks, the controller has had a rough time earning the favor of gamers.
Nevertheless, Valve spent the last few years updating the controller and improving the ability to customize the product. But after all that time, it seems the Steam Controller has finally met its end.
Confirming the details to The Verge, Valve revealed that that they will no longer be manufacturing the controller. No official reason was provided for this decision, but given the fact that it was a part of the company's failed Steam Machine initiative and disappointing sales numbers, it isn't a surprising move.
Although the final units were available on the Steam store for $5, the limited stock quickly sold out in a matter of days.
