Every week, Gamasutra rounds up the top-grossing iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad applications, as current that day in the iTunes App Store. This week's U.S. revenue charts see Grand Theft Auto III and Angry Birds earning top iPhone sales, while The Sims: FreePlay and Atari's Greatest Hits emerge as big sellers on the iPad. These charts allow end users to see who is making the most money on the App Store that day. It differs significantly from the Top 10 Games chart, which is ranked by sales, and therefore is dominated by lower-priced titles that sell more copies. Data comes courtesy of Apple's public sales information. All titles in the App Store's "Games" category are considered in chart rankings. This week's top-grossing iPhone titles are: 1. Angry Birds ($0.99) 2. Grand Theft Auto III ($2.99) 3. Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies ($6.99) 4. Infinity Blade II ($6.99) 5. Plants vs. Zombies ($2.99) 6. DragonVale (Free) 7. Fruit Ninja ($0.99) 8. Words With Friends ($0.99) 9. Tiny Tower (Free) 10. Minecraft: Pocket Edition ($6.99) Rovio's Angry Birds and Rockstar's price-dropped Grand Theft Auto III lead as the iPhone's highest-grossing apps during the App Store's busiest week of the year. Recent favorites like Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies and Infinity Blade II remain strong sellers in the days after Christmas, as microtransaction-supported titles like DragonVale and Tiny Tower also report top earnings. Here are this week’s top-grossing iPad applications: 1. Angry Birds HD ($4.99) 2. The Sims: FreePlay (Free) 3. Battle Nations (Free) 4. DragonVale (Free) 5. Smurfs' Village (Free) 6. Infinity Blade II ($6.99) 7. Atari's Greatest Hits (Free) 8. Fruit Ninja HD ($2.99) 9. Grand Theft Auto III ($2.99) 10. Modern War (Free) Angry Birds moves up several spots to claim top honors in this week's iPad sales results, overtaking EA's The Sims: FreePlay and Z2Live's former chart leader Battle Nations. The retrogaming compilation Atari's Greatest Hits reports greatly increased in-app purchase sales over the holiday week, meanwhile, putting it in close proximity with longtime favorites like Smurfs' Village and DragonVale.
