Aspyr Media today announced it would be bringing a version of Firaxis-developed Sid Meier's Civilization V to Macintosh computers -- and it's coming "this holiday season." The announcement -- and the planned Mac release -- follow closely on last month's PC release for the game, which received critical acclaim and strong sales. The Aspyr-produced Mac version of previous series entry Civilization IV took longer to arrive -- nearly eight months after the original game's October 2005 release on PC. It's not yet clear if the game will be available for the Mac version of Valve's Steam digital distribution service, which launched in May. Aspyr is best known for its ports of PC and console titles to the Mac -- the company's ports currently represent a significant portion of the commercial game market on the Apple platform. The company is currently facing a patent infringement lawsuit from DRM firm Uniloc. "The Civilization franchise is a fan-favorite -- and one of the best-selling Mac games ever," Aspyr Media EVP Ted Staloch said in a statement. "We are thrilled to be able to participate in this newest version and bring Mac gamers this native experience so close to the PC launch."
