[Every week, IndieGames.com: The Weblog co-editor-in-chief Tim W. will be summing up some of the top free-to-download and commercial indie games from the last seven days on his sister 'state of indie' weblog.] This week on "Best Of Indie Games," we take a look at some of the top independent PC Flash/downloadable titles released over this last week. The goodies in this edition include a tower defense game inspired by science fiction films from the 1950s, a unique Flash game that mixes elements from classic puzzlers and miniature golf, a mashup of Tetris and a word search, a new release from Llamasoft's founder Jeff Minter, plus a 2D platformer that features a team of acrobatic janitors. Here's some recent highlights from IndieGames.com: Game Pick: 'Unstoppable Gorg' (Futuremark, commercial indie) "Inspired by science fiction films from the 1950s, Unstoppable Gorg challenges players to fend off alien invaders using an array of attack sattelites. In a clever twist, players must position their units by rotating the orbits of nearby planets, moons, and space stations." Game Pick: 'Eunaborb' (krangGAMES, browser) "In Eunaborb, players click and drag a sphere to determine shot power and direction, then release to propel it across obstacle-filled terrain and toward a stage-ending Warp Hole." Game Pick: 'Puzzlejuice' (Colaboratory, commercial indie) "Two of the more popular types of games on the iOS app store, match 3 and word games, join forces here to form Puzzlejuice. It's essentially a mashup between Tetris and a word search, where you have to arrange coloured blocks dropping from the top of the screen into full horizontal row." Game Pick: 'Caverns of Minos' (Llamasoft, commercial indie) "Llamasoft's Caverns of Minos is heavily inspired by Caverns of Mars for Atari 8-bit computers, which itself is basically a vertically-scrolling take on Konami's early-'80s arcade title Scrambl." Game Pick: 'Dustforce' (Hitbox Team, commercial indie) "As an acrobatic janitor in Dustforce, players will leap and dash off walls and ceilings and traverse 50 precarious environments varying in difficulty." Game Pick: 'Dog Game #1' (Daniel Blackburn, freeware) "Daniel Blackburn's Dog Game #1 is all about survival, while causing an increasing sense of claustrophobia. The game is literally trying to close itself as fast as possible, as enemies cause the game window to move and shrink."
