New York City-based Omgpop, which develops casual/social titles and operates an online multiplayer gaming portal, is reportedly raising as much as the area of $10 million in its latest round of funding. Existing investors such as Bessemer Venture Partners and Spark Capital are taking part in the new round, which hasn't yet closed, as is new backer Softbank Capital NY, according to a report from tech business site All Things Digital. Since its opening in 2006, the company has raised $6.5 million across two funding rounds. Omgpop originally marketed its flagship site as a social network called I'minlikewithyou with a focus on dating, then shifted its focus to free-to-play casual games like the recently released Missile Command remake with social features. The developer's self-titled portal reached three million members in June, but Omgpop has seen its games' audience double recently to six million after integrating its titles into Facebook -- it's unclear if that number includes monthly active users or gamers who might have played the studio's titles just once. CEO Dan Porter mentioned several months ago that "a number of the large social game companies" talked to Omgpop about a possible acquisition, though the firm turned them all down. He noted that "several major media companies" also approached the studio about getting into the social games space. "... We've not been interested in trading our stock for their stock or being another acquisition in a series of acquisitions, especially as things are going great for us," said Porter.
