House: Euro Move Sales Around 1.5M, PS3 Sales 'Very Strong'

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Chief Andrew House said the PS3's PlayStation Move motion control device has sold "in the region of 1.5 million units" in the continent in its first month of sales. Speaking to Bloomberg News, House noted that sales since the peripheral's September 19th release have exceeded initial expectations, and that the company is "probably be looking at accelerating production" for the camera-based motion controller. House also said he expects the PlayStation 3 to exceed sales targets of 15 million units worldwide for the fiscal year, thanks to strength in North America and Europe. “Sales have been significantly up year-on-year in a market that has been overall slightly down,” he said. The strong system sales, which have contributed to total sell-though of 38 million PS3s worldwide since launch (as of an October 13 company report), led House to maintain his prediction that the PlayStation unit would be profitable for the fiscal year ending in March 2011, despite challenges associated with currency fluctuations. The PlayStation 3 has seen renewed consistency of sales in numerous markets since a price reduction and hardware redesign last August. Despite the recent delay of long-anticipated PS3-exclusive racing title Gran Turismo 5, House said he was "very confident that the game will be released before the end of this year."
